In June, the Lazaridis MBA had the pleasure of hosting fifteen MBA students from the University of Stellenbosch (USB). This graduate business school is located in Cape Town, and is a partner institution of Laurier’s in South Africa. The students were visiting Canada as part of a study tour similar to the International Business Study Trip offered here in the Lazaridis MBA program. Earlier in February 2013, the Lazaridis MBA students had the similar pleasure of visiting the University of Stellenbosch leaving us excited for Laurier to be university of choice for their study trip.
The visiting MBA students had a terrific time during their stay, both professionally and personally, as they spent time with host, Professor Gene Deszca. Thanks to Laurier Alumni and friends of the program, the visiting students had fascinating corporate visits to companies such as Scotiabank, BlackBerry, Deloitte, Home Hardware, and Linamar. In addition, the students visited the Hub in Waterloo, where they explored their entrepreneurial sides as they stopped by start-up companies such as Desire2Learn. However, the students’ trip was not limited to Waterloo. They experienced wine country in Niagara Falls thanks to Fielding and Reif Estate Wineries where the MBA students got insights into this important Canadian industry. And then of course there was the famous CN Tower, Waterloo’s own Ethel’s, time with our MBA students at Shoeless Joe’s, blues at the Boathouse, and many other experiences that made the trip memorable.
We are looking forward to seeing our relationship with University of Stellenbosch continue to grow as we anticipate many more visits in the years to come.
