Laurier co-op programs receive national accreditation

June 26, 2013

WATERLOO & Wilfrid Laurier University has received accreditation for several of its co-operative education programs from the Canadian Association for Co-operative Education (CAFCE).

CAFCE accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement for co-operative education programs in Canada, and recognizes that Laurier has met a wide range of quality standards in its programming.

The organization granted accreditation for co-op programs in Laurier’s School of Business & Economics, including the Bachelor of Business Administration and Honours Bachelor of Arts in Economics, MBA, Master of Arts in Business Economics and Master of Finance co-op programs. Laurier also received accreditation for the Faculty of Science’s Professional Experience Program, and a double-degree co-op program offered jointly through the Faculty of Science and the School of Business & Economics.

Laurier has a strong reputation as a leader in offering quality co-operative education programs, said Karen McCargar, associate director of co-operative education at Laurier. National accreditation of our programs is an important testament to the quality standards we uphold and the success we have achieved in offering a model of education that integrates academic and workplace learning.

The accreditation process is comprehensive, and takes into account all aspects of co-op programming, delivery and administration, including co-op job approvals and employment rates, student preparation and learning objectives, and monitoring and assessment, among other criteria. Accreditation is granted for six years.

Laurier launched its undergraduate co-op program in business in 1976. The first program of its kind in Ontario, it is now the largest business degree co-op program in Canada. Laurier also offers a wide variety of co-op programs in the faculties of Arts and Science.
