About the GMAT

The GMAT is the #1 criteria most top-tier business schools look at when making MBA admissions decisions. As such, no other single component of your MBA application can have a bigger impact on your successful admission to business school than achieving a high GMAT score.

Although the GMAT is officially advertised as “just” a test of high school math and verbal knowledge, there is significantly more to it than that. The Math and Verbal theory, though basic, consists of hundreds of rules, formulas, and individual topics. These topics appear in a variety of different question formats, many of which are unique to the GMAT and require different solution strategies. The questions themselves are not just challenging, but are purposely designed to be tricky and misleading. Moreover, test takers are given a very limited amount of time per question, making it necessary to have an efficient approach to each question type and a good overall time management strategy.

The current minimum GMAT score for general admission into the Lazaridis MBA program is 550. For the MBA (with Co-op) program, the minimum score is 600. Last year, the average GMAT score for admission into the Lazaridis MBA program was 630. For those seeking a competitive advantage in their application, a GMAT score of 650+ is a more befitting target score goal.

Industry data for the GMAT shows that the single most important factor for GMAT success is the amount of study time invested. Students who spend more hours preparing for the GMAT tend to be the ones who achieve the highest relative GMAT scores. In fact, according to real GMAT data, students scoring in the competitive range of 650+ invest an average of almost 100 hours into GMAT exam preparation. And that’s just an average. Many test takers seeking top scores spend double that amount of time mastering the GMAT.

As such, one of the best ways to achieve a high GMAT score is to prepare like top GMAT test takers do. 100+ hours of study time reflects the amount of preparation it takes to become proficient in all of the skills necessary to achieve a top score on the GMAT. The Quantum Ultimate Toronto GMAT prep course, at 100 hours in length, is the most comprehensive Toronto GMAT prep course in the industry. Complimentary GMAT Refresher Classes

However, before you worry about the ins and outs of GMAT strategy and time management, it’s important to have a thorough knowledge of the theory the GMAT will be testing you on.
