Access some of your RRSP Savings through the Lifelong Learning Plan
The Lifelong Learning Plan (LLP) allows candidates to withdraw money from their registered retirement savings plans (RRSPs) to finance their own education or that of their spouse or partner. The amount of money withdrawn under the LLP does not count towards income, and the RRSP issuer does not withhold the taxes on these amounts. However, your withdrawal must be paid back over a period of no more than 10 years. For more information, consult the Canada Revenue Agency.
Personal Income Tax Deduction for Tuition Fees
If you pay all or part of your tuition fees yourself, then you are eligible to use that as a personal income tax deduction on your personal income tax return. Normally, the tax savings are about 25% of the eligible tuition fee. For more specific advice, it is best for you to consult with a professional tax advisor to understand the full impact of tuition fee deduction on your personal income tax.
